Since 2005, Med-STA has grown through the people behind it. What began as an idea shared by two founders is now a network of management, a core team and 25+ part-time instructors — united by the commitment to delivering training that makes a difference in real emergencies.
MANAGING DIRECTOR & CO-FOUNDER
Michael Weldi trained in anaesthesia nursing and holds the Austrian Notfallsanitäter qualification in advanced emergency medical care. He co-founded Med-STA in 2005.
Alongside his management role, he leads the patient safety management and organisational development unit at Krankenhaus der Elisabethinen Graz.
He is an ERC Instructor Trainer, a flight nurse in international air ambulance services and a part-time lecturer at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. His doctoral dissertation on video-assisted simulation in hospital management was published as a specialist book.
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Christian Schroffenegger trained in operating theatre nursing and worked in operating theatre management before moving into hospital administration.
He is Administrative Director and an authorised signatory at Krankenhaus der Elisabethinen Graz, and deputy president of the Styrian association of hospital directors (Vereinigung der Krankenhausdirektoren Steiermarks).
At Med-STA, he is responsible for the company’s commercial and financial management.
Our core team brings together simulation, technology, organisation and administration, giving instructors the support they need to focus on training.
Medical Director
Christian Pizzera is a general surgeon and has been an instructor at Med-STA since 2013.
As Medical Director since 2019, he helps shape the company’s direction. He regularly facilitates simulation in both emergency scenarios and process improvement workshops.
Head of Simulation Engineering & SIMLUTIONS® Product Development
Gerald Trathnigg has been involved with Med-STA since its foundation and has been part of the core team since 2019. Previously, he was responsible for technology as deputy head of the KAGes simulation centre. Since 2023, he has led medical engineering at Krankenhaus der Elisabethinen Graz.
At Med-STA, he develops technical simulation solutions under the SIMLUTIONS® brand.
Team Support & Organisation
Raffaela Ortner joined Med-STA full-time in August 2025. She is the main contact for clients and partners, coordinating seminar planning, instructors and contracts. She also manages our social media channels and AGN membership administration.
Equipment & Logistics
Michaela Eisenberger worked in operating theatre nursing and theatre leadership at Krankenhaus der Elisabethinen before joining its patient safety management and organisational development unit in 2022.
At Med-STA, she manages the training equipment inventory across approximately 100 m² of storage space and regularly facilitates process improvement workshops.
Accounting
Iris Karner leads procurement and materials management at Krankenhaus der Elisabethinen.
At Med-STA, she is responsible for bookkeeping and accounting.
Our instructors work in healthcare as doctors, nurses, emergency medical personnel or quality assurance professionals. Their experience informs simulation training designed to support better care.
